About the event

Free arts workshops to create and experiment with unusual materials!

Illuminating art workshops coming up as part of: Art N About in Gala, a community arts programme funded by Energise Galashiels Trust, Scottish Borders Council and South of Scotland Enterprise, and delivered by Transform Arts CIC

Claire Beattie, a fabulous local Artist will be partnering with Borders Hearing Care to deliver two bookable Workshops aimed at anyone with hearing loss, deafness, or other sensory issues.

These multi-media and sensory workshops will explore using light, sound and touch to generate new and unusual ways to create art.  There is no right or wrong way to make the art, so whatever your confidence level just come along and enjoy the making process, it will be inspring, social and a great way to feel good.  Come along and enjoy being creative and meeting others. The sessions are an opportunity to relax, try something creative and new and switch off.  No previous experience is required - it’s all about enjoying the creative process.

During the first workshop we will use paper in different ways to create interesting creations such as woven paper tiles, embossed paper spirals and paper sculptures.  During the second session we will look at creating images on photosensitive paper using UV light, as well as using torches to create some moving light images. There will also be time to use some drawing and collage materials to extend and transform these images even further.

You can join us for one or both sessions.

All ages and abilities welcome.

U16's must bring an accompanying adult (over 18), carers are welcome.

More about your tutor Claire Beattie:

As a visual artist I have shown my paintings professionally throughout the UK since 2008. My work, inspired by the landscape and responding to ideas of a centre point and focus is in many private collections in the UK and worldwide. A solitary motif such as a single tree is a recurrent theme alongside strong horizontal areas suggesting a more abstract visual language. My work has been shown several times at the Royal Scottish Academy and the Royal Glasgow Institute. I am a member of the Society of Scottish Artists and Visual Arts Scotland.

Alongside my painting I work collaboratively with groups of people of all ages and abilities in lots of different settings to creatively explore and to communicate ideas that are important to them. This has involved projects with National Galleries of Scotland, Marchmont Makers Foundation, Health in Mind, Museums Northumberland, Live Borders Museums and Galleries, National Museum of Scotland and HMP Northumberland.
